They can also be used to establish good relationships with newspapers and the media. To understand your interviewer\u2019s style, it is helpful to read a couple of their articles or watch some of their video segments.<\/p><p class=\"translation-block\">Establish contact beforehand so you know the type interview to expect: over the phone, one on one, or broadcast. Ask if additional materials would be helpful, like photographs to support the interview. Furthermore, it is good to know the length of the interview so your colleagues, employees, or partners do not interrupt you.<\/p><p class=\"translation-block\">Prepare answers for potential questions beforehand so you may remain composed during the interview. Write down the <a href=\"https:\/\/equestris.hr\/eng\/testiranje-poruka-i-pobjednicki-narativ\/pillar-testiranje-poruka-i-pobjednicki-narativ\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_self\"><strong>key messages<\/strong><\/a> and answers you wish to communicate. It is also important to know what you want to say and stay in control of the topic of conversation.<\/p><p class=\"translation-block\">After you have finished the initial preparation, spend about ten minutes answering questions from your interview plan and go through your key messages. You can also practice where to look at and how to control your <a href=\"https:\/\/equestris.hr\/eng\/medijski-treninzi-i-javni-nastup\/vaznost-neverbalne-komunikacije\/\" target=\"_self\"><strong>body language<\/strong><\/a>. during the interview.<\/p><p><strong>During the interview<\/strong><\/p><p class=\"translation-block\">Dress appropriately. Professional and business attire are always a good choice. If you are participating in a TV interview, keep in mind that cameras dislike patterns \u2013 wear single-coloured clothes without patterns.<\/p><p>When the interview begins, maintain control. Convey your key messages and stay confident but avoid looking arrogant. Use questions to transition from one message to another. When you have been asked a question, take a moment to think it through, then answer in a calm and relaxed manner. During the interview observe and listen carefully, be flexible and always cooperate with your interviewer .<\/p><p class=\"translation-block\">Never use the phrase <em><strong>\u201cno comment\u201d<\/strong><\/em><strong> <\/strong>  \u2013 it suggests that you are trying to avoid answering the question, covering something up or confirming incorrect claims. Instead, explain why you cannot answer the question in that moment and address one of your other key messages.<\/p><p>Use correct grammatical language so the interviewer and the audience can understand you. Do not assume everyone understands the industry jargon.<\/p><p><strong>After the interview<\/strong><\/p><p>After the interview is over, relax but do not ask if you\u2019ve done well. Carefully check that the recording equipment is off.  Do not comment on the interview or the interviewer after they leave the room, regardless of how they addressed you during the interview.<\/p><p>Express gratitude for the call and collaboration. When you get to your office, send an additional email thanking interviewer.  Use that opportunity to ask if you should send additional material or photographs.<\/p><p>After the interview has been published in the media, use the chance to share the article or video on social media with your colleagues or employees.<\/p><p>Lastly, give yourself some time to analyse the whole interview. Now, after the fact, you can look at the whole process from a different perspective. It may be temporary, but it can leave lasting damage.<\/p><p class=\"translation-block\">A crisis situation is essentially a call to action. When a crisis does occur, first need to deal with the crisis itself, communication and the media comes second. In crisis situations, public appearance is the most sensitive and delicate communication tool. This kind of appearance demands an extremely experienced, skilful speaker who is thoroughly prepared.<\/p><p>You need to communicate as soon and as often as you can. Tell what, when and how it happened, who was involved and who is affected by the crisis. If you can, answer the question why something happened.<\/p><p>To be effective when appearing during a crisis situation, consider the following advice:<\/p><p><strong>Watch what you are conveying with your gestures and nonverbal communication while speaking\u00a0<\/strong><\/p><p class=\"translation-block\">Look at yourself in the mirror when preparing a speech, if it would make things easier.  Take note of your natural reactions. Be confident. Be sure that your <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/equestris.hr\/eng\/medijski-treninzi-i-javni-nastup\/vaznost-neverbalne-komunikacije\/\" target=\"_self\">body language<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong> and your verbal communication are aligned.<\/p><p><strong>Write down your key messages and do not fear moments of silence<\/strong><\/p><p>Often in situations like these, the speaker, wanting to break the uncomfortable silence, says something unintended and accidentally makes the situation worse. Communicate only key messages and avoid sharing unnecessary information.<\/p><p><strong>Ask yourself which target audience is affected by the crisis and speak directly to them<\/strong><\/p><p>When you are aware of the your audience, adjust your speech, language and tone to that specific group. This is your chance to remedy your mistake and send a real message to those most affected by the crisis. Show that you care and send an emotional message of support.<\/p><p>Always keep in mind:<\/p><blockquote><p class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"color: #888b8d\"><em>Whenever there\u2019s a crisis, there\u2019s an information void. You can fill it, or I can get my information from someone else. Which would you prefer?<\/em><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote><p class=\"translation-block\"><em>Former NY Times reporter and current Wharton Professor Stuart Diamond<\/em><\/p><p>Communicate as soon as possible, but remember that your reaction needs to be level, thoughtful and clear. Timely communication allows you to deal with one more key problem \u2013 you take away the opportunity for others to fill this \u201cinformation void\u201d with inaccurate, false
